In her young-adult years of Part 2, she suffers a devastating loss and a nightmarish relationship turns lethal, but marriage and an expansion of her career to the Broadway stage open new worlds for her. With motherhood in Part 3 come the rockiest years of Cal's marriage. How odd it is that her best acting is done when her personal life is in shambles! Heart-wrenching loss and happy, new beginnings mark Cal's middle years in Part 4. It is a time of surprising relationships and the fulfillment of her professional dreams-the creation of her own production company, with funding from the most unlikely source of all. ___

I've just finished A Gal Named Cal, having taken it to work with me for the past few days and reading it at lunch, because I HAD to find out what was going to happen next! This manuscript is gold - a lovely story, and an extremely fitting addition to what is primarily a non-fiction menu of offerings at BearManor Media. This one fits like a glove - beautiful!What I was so happy about - because I had been so worried about it before I began - was that Ms. Jordan's manuscript was so conversationally written. Dialogue can be horrid to read if written poorly. This dialogue was superb, and because of its excellence, the characters really pop. You feel like you KNOW Cal, Nate, Leonard, Jill, Cara and company, because they were all so well developed, so well plotted, and so well executed. I am so thrilled for this author! (I would love to write a novel someday...)
The neat thing about this - and why it is a good fit for BearManor Media - is that the book carries the reader through the evolution, over a number of years, of a (yes) gal named Cal. We first meet her as a rather sassy teen...., and we leave her as a married woman and a successful director/writer/actress/mother/lover. It is a great trip we take - excellent stories, neatly written, lovely flow between vignettes. I have not one critique - this was a page-turner, a riveting, fun, and extremely informative tale (the reader learns a LOT about the industry both before and behind the camera ... what a novel notion for a manuscript!). One thing, though, that was missing, and which is needed: an About the Author blurb. Why? Because the reader will want to find out more about the woman who wrote such a dynamite novel about the most glorious industry there is!
I congratulate Ms. Jordan - and this is one book I would love to get a copy of (autographed, preferably) once it is published. Gorgeous!
